A Horse Story

Most of the worlds salt is harvested from one of two areas of the world, Goderich Ontario, Canada and the Khewra Salt Mines in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains. In 326 BC, Alexander the Great was traveling east into the Indian subcontinent. This was known as the Indian Campaign of Alexander the Great. While stopped in Khewra, Pakistan, his troops noticed the horses licking stones. These smart horses were basically replenishing the nutrients lost from sweating! As with any mining rush, the town flourished. It is estimated the mine size is around 7 billions tons. Now, The Kingdom of Salt – Khewra City sees roughly 250,000 tourist a year!
